History

The Derry Montessori School was founded in 1982, by Donna
Compagna, beginning with just a handful of children, and has grown to enrollments of more than 70.  The School incorporated as a non-profit organization in August 1984. At present we serve children aged 2.9 to 6 years of age.

The educational philosophy of the School is based on the teachings of Maria Montessori.

The discoveries that Maria Montessori made about children, their development and their needs, has over the years, brought vision and renewal to education on a world wide level. Individualization is a priority in the Montessori classroom. It allows for maximum growth and development in all academic areas, and prides itself in fostering self-esteem, pride, personal responsibility, good character, and strong community ties.   These are qualities that the children will carry with them throughout their lives.

Presently we have a wonderful international community of learners. Our school is centrally located in Southern NH, serving families in Derry, Londonderry, Hudson, Litchfield, Pelham, Windham, Salem, Auburn, Chester, Sandown, Manchester, Bedford, and Hooksett.

Programs include both morning and afternoon sessions. Some extended programs are available, and full-day Kindergarten is offered for those children entering elementary programs the following year.

We also offer a summer program for the months of July & August. This program offers half-day and full day programs, 5 days a week and focuses primarily on environmental education,  and the arts, includes many outdoor activities including swimming, hiking, camping, science, theatre arts, painting, music, crafts and much more.  We also have a camp counselor program which encourages young adults to develop their skills and share them with the younger children in the program. This program is offered to alumni, to the community and to presently enrolled students.

We are delighted to have you spend time with us, and hope you will consider joining our community. Welcome to a world-class school with a deeply committed community of professionals and parents who enjoy the process of life and living it to its fullest, through quality programming at the Derry Montessori School.

                                                            Respectfully,
